July 4th, Week 5 Day 2 Journal Blog
Even though I am not particularly old (30) I have had a lot of my friends and some of my closest friends die already. All of the deaths came as a shock and were very sudden. Nobody saw it coming but all the deaths told a little bit about the life of my friends.
One of my closest friends had a heart problem but you would have never been able to tell. He was living life large with fast cars and vacations. He bought a $100,000 Shelby Cobra and went on a Hawaiian vacation. On that vacation he went on a scuba diving trip. He must have not told the scuba diving instructors about his heart problems because he went on to die of heart complications on that very outing.
Another friend of mine loved fishing. Every free moment he had he would be out on our favorite fishing spot that you could only reach by crossing over a train bridge. Every time we crossed that bridge I was worried because the trains would fly through. One day he went fishing by himself. Long story short, he fell victim to a fast train.
I had a friend that was such a bad driver that her insurance premiums were outrageous. She would hit parked cars religiously. She died on a icy road, when she hit a tree.
I also had a friend that loved to party. Does not matter when, you could ask him to party with you. Little to say he passed away from an overdose.
These are all sad recollections. I do not recount these incidents to mock my friends. It is a reminder for me and everybody else to appreciate life and remember that this very moment may be our defining moment. Is this how we want to be remembered? Anything can cause your death. Life is very fragile, we just seem to forget. I remember my friends and I slow down, appreciate life and try not to take it for granted.
