In this course our audience is made up of college students from very diverse backgrounds. I believe the questions that were posted on the discussion board helped to bring forth insightful answers about the audiences believes and personalities. I asked the question about the student’s favorite quotes or proverbs and received very diverse answers. I was surprised by the many religious quotes. Many of the proverbs helped me learn about the audience. Most of the students seem to have a positive outlook on life. The TV show question showed me the different interests that the student have. There are students ranging in all age groups with different hobbies and coming from different backgrounds. I would assume that since all of them are in a college class, that there is a certain level of intelligence and attention towards essays that they have to read. Writing to this audience I would have to make sure to be respectful, since many seem to have some kind of religious background. At the same time I would try to use humor since they all seem to have a sense of humor, especially when you look at the answers to the superhero question.
The question about who we would give $5000 to, showed me that the students can emphasize and have a lot of compassion for other people. I think the audience would be able to put themselves in the author’s point of view and writing about thoughts and feelings of an author would be effective for this audience. We also have to consider that, as far as I know, the students are from the Ozarks area, that is known for certain qualities.
In conclusion I think that the audience would benefit from writing with humor as well as insightful thoughts and feelings.
Good. Remember to be specific. If you are making a statement such as "from the Ozarks area, that is known for certain qualities", remember to be specific. I am not from the Ozarks, originally, and find myself in an everlasting cultural jet lag - help this audience member know what you are meaning by such statements. ~Ms. A.
