Respect

July 8th, Week 5 Day 6

Currently I am dealing with teaching the children about respect and manners. It seems like the summer takes a toll on the kids manners. Without the structure of school, they seem to forget certain things.
Respect is a very important virtue for me. You have to respect people, does not matter who they are. My children will know to respect, their elders especially. I freak out when I am talking to another adult and the child thinks they can just interrupt to tell me something. I get so mad when I have to tell the children 4-5 times to do something before they listen. They are like little lawyers. They always have an excuse or try to divert my attention towards another topic, so that they won't have to do what I am telling them.
I will be telling my son to go to his room and he will respond back with something like" Dad, dad I just want to give you a hug. Can you make the world's best smoothies again" Little charmers.
But respect is very important. I think people forget that they should be courteous and act with respect towards people. We live in a pretty rude world where strangers will flip you off and hardly anybody goes out of their way for somebody else.
Sometimes I hear children screaming at their parents and I think to myself that I done would have smacked them upside their head if they were mine. But I have to deal with it from my children. They are trying to push their boundaries and see what they can get away with.
I know I have to steer them in the right direction now before they turn into the children that I see yelling at their parents. I just try to enforce the rules. They may think I am too strict but later on in life when they now how to treat people and people in turn treat them with respect, they will think back and thank me for being a hard ass.
