July 9th, Week 5 Day 7 Journal Blog entry
I am sure most people have doubts and insecurities when they start college after being out of school for years. It seems overwhelming just to go to the campus to sign up for the classes.
I started college last spring after being out of school for over ten years. I was tired of dead end jobs and bosses that did not appreciate my work even if you gave it your all. It seems that nowadays you have to have a college degree just as you had to have a high-school diploma back in the day.
But finally the day was here and before I knew it, I was going to classes everyday. But going to class is not the same as actually getting something out of it. I had to learn to stop to procrastinate and really study. Even when you do all these things there are fears. I knew I could do well but I was not sure if I was going to figure out how to go about it. Well, last week I probably had the most rewarding feeling of success since I started college. I am in automotive classes and we were scheduled to have several tests on one day. I had no clue about the material but I knew I had to do something about it. I showed up hours early to practice for the test, even skipping lunch to get it down. Well it paid off. All the studying I did was worth while because while some people had major breakdowns during the test, I did very well. I knew beforehand that I did not know the material well enough and studied hard to make sure I would succeed. Victory seems even more rewarding when you worked really hard for it. So I think I got the studying down now and the doubts seem to fade.
I am a freshman in college, and I understand the rewarding feeling you get when your hard work pays off in confidence and sucess. I was in Anatomy/PhysiologyI last spring. I was told this was one of the hardest classes you could take at OTC. I don't know if that's true, but I do know that we went from a class of 24 to a class of 9 before midterm. Some people couldn't take it. I stuck it out, sacrificed precious sleep, and made it out of there with an "A" :) It felt pretty darn good. Keep up the good work Larry.
